Largest US aircraft carrier arrives in the Caribbean Sea.

On Sunday (16), the United States Navy announced the arrival of the USS Gerald Ford, the world's largest aircraft carrier, in the Caribbean Sea. The vessel is part of the strike group that includes the destroyers USS Winston Churchill, USS Mahan and USS Bainbridge, and is accompanied by aircraft such as attack jets and the B-52 Stratofortress bomber.

Operation "Southern Spear" and the fight against drug trafficking.

The USS Gerald Ford is part of Operation "Spear of the South," which aims to combat drug trafficking in the Caribbean region. According to the Pentagon, the mission aims to dismantle transnational criminal networks involved in drug trafficking. Since September, US attacks have resulted in at least 80 deaths in 20 raids against vessels suspected of transporting drugs in the Caribbean and the Eastern Pacific.

Pressure on Nicolás Maduro's regime

Experts point out that the presence of the aircraft carrier increases US pressure on the government of Nicolás Maduro, accused by Washington of leading the so-called "Cartel of the Suns." The movement has generated fears of a possible US military action in Venezuela, raising tensions between the two countries.

People's Summit and COP30 in Belém

Meanwhile, in Brazil, President Lula highlighted the importance of the People's Summit, a parallel event to COP30, which took place in Belém. Lula stated that the climate conference would not be viable without the participation of civil society and indigenous peoples, emphasizing the urgency of decisions regarding climate finance, energy transition, and combating deforestation.

The president also criticized climate change denial and reinforced the need for a more just and equitable world, free from poverty and the climate crisis. The People's Summit concluded with a cultural event and food distribution in Republic Square, Belém.

Challenges to competitiveness in Europe

In Europe, there is debate about whether the continent has improved its competitiveness since the Draghi report. The discussion involves ceding powers to European regulators, an issue that divides member states and impacts the bloc's economic and political agenda.
