This week marks advances in artificial intelligence and new rules for children.

Brazil consolidated its position as a technology and innovation powerhouse this week with two strategic moves: advancing digital sovereignty through investments in artificial intelligence and approving new rules to protect minors in the digital environment.

AI supercomputer reinforces digital sovereignty.

The country is on track to receive one of the five most powerful artificial intelligence supercomputers in the world. The initiative is part of the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan, which foresees investments of up to R$ 23 billion by 2028.[2] The objective is to strengthen data security and Brazilian digital sovereignty in a scenario of increasing global competition for cutting-edge technology.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) announced an investment of R$35 million to boost research and development in artificial intelligence, data science and innovation in Piauí.[6] The funds are expected to accelerate scientific and technological projects in the state.

New age rules for social media and AI.

Brazil will raise the minimum recommended age for using social media and artificial intelligence tools in 2026. According to the ECA Digital (Digital Child and Adolescent Statute), messaging apps will be recommended for those over 12 years old, social media for those 16 years old, and AI chatbots for those 14 years old.[3]

The regulation places the responsibility on app stores (Apple, Google, and Microsoft) to verify users' ages. Digital service providers will also be obligated to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content, including platforms like Meta, TikTok, and gambling sites.

Brazilian agricultural technology gaining international recognition.

Nine Brazilian companies are participating in Agritechnica 2025, the largest agricultural technology fair in Europe, which takes place until November 15 in Hannover, Germany.[4] The event brings together more than 430,000 visitors from 130 countries.

Of particular note is the SaveFarm® solution, which uses advanced artificial intelligence algorithms to accurately identify weeds. The system is already operating on more than 200 farms in South America and reduces herbicide use by up to 95%.[4]

Innovation in service of the environment.

During COP30, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, emphasized that innovation and technology must be at the service of the environment.[5] According to her, any decarbonization agenda necessarily involves science, technology and innovation to discover mechanisms for sustainability, bioeconomy and industrial decarbonization.
