Web Summit 2025: Brazil in the spotlight

With over 300 startups, Brazil is one of the largest delegations at Web Summit 2025, a global technology event in Lisbon. Participation is coordinated by public and private institutions, such as ApexBrasil and Atlantic Hub, which are organizing a mission with 250 Brazilian startups.

According to Eduardo Migliorelli, CEO of Atlantic Hub, the Brazilian ecosystem has matured and now actively participates in the global debate on innovation, from artificial intelligence to technologies with social impact. "Today, internationalization is no longer something distant; it's a natural part of companies' growth strategy," he states.

Companies like Ultracom and Instituto Priority have already consolidated operations in Portugal, demonstrating that Brazil's internationalization is a concrete reality.

Green and digital innovation in Brazil

Meanwhile, in the country, the National Innovation Journey is touring the Northeast to map technological solutions aimed at the ecological and digital transition. The Regional Meeting will be held in Salvador on November 25th, bringing together companies, researchers, and entrepreneurs to discuss challenges and opportunities.

Deep technologies, such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and new materials, are at the center of discussions, focusing on high-impact solutions to social and environmental challenges. The government is also reinforcing its support through policies that grant subsidies and promote social innovation.

Challenges and opportunities

  • Artificial intelligence, sustainability, and ESG are central themes in global debates.
  • Data center infrastructure and preparing society for digital transformation are priorities.
  • Venture capital investment policies for DeepTech companies and instruments to support social innovation are on the agenda.

Environmental impact of technology

At COP30, the use of artificial intelligence is dividing opinions. While it can generate useful information for farmers and help in the management of natural resources, it also represents an environmental challenge due to the high energy and water consumption of data centers.

According to Jornal Nacional, data centers are already responsible for almost 51 Tbp of energy consumption in the United States and 201 Tbp in Ireland. In the next five years, energy use by data centers is expected to more than double, requiring sustainable solutions.
