As 2025 approaches, technology is following a clear path: autonomy and control go hand in hand. The main trends emerging are not just about innovation, but about how organizations learn to coexist with increasingly independent systems.

Gartner, at its IT Symposium/Xpo held in October 2024, identified ten strategic trends that will dominate the corporate landscape. Among them, two stand out for their urgency and immediate impact: Agency AI and AI governance platforms.

Agency AI: The Virtual Workforce

Agency AI systems autonomously plan and execute actions to achieve user-defined goals. This is not simply traditional automation—these agents function as a virtual workforce capable of making complex decisions without constant human intervention.

The projection is ambitious: by 2028, at least 15% of day-to-day work decisions will be made autonomously by Agency AI, compared to virtually % in 2024. This represents a structural shift in how organizations operate.

The impact goes beyond the numbers. Companies and suppliers are developing robust practices for safe implementation, recognizing that large-scale automation demands reliability and operational efficiency.

AI Governance: The Necessary Brake

As AI advances, an equally pressing need arises: governance. AI governance platforms, integrated with Gartner's TRiSM (AI Trust, Risk, and Security Management) framework, help organizations monitor the legal, ethical, and operational performance of their AI solutions.

The return on investment in governance is measurable. Companies with robust AI governance will have 401,300 fewer AI-related ethical incidents by 2028, according to Gartner projections. In a scenario where corporate reputation is a bargaining chip, this number is not insignificant.

Other Fronts of Disruption

In addition to the agency AI and governance duo, other technologies are gaining traction:

Quantum Computing It remains an open frontier, promoting exponential computing power for complex problems. Post-quantum cryptography emerges as a defensive response, preparing infrastructures for a future where quantum computers can break current encryption.

Internet of Things (IoT) This trend is expected to explode in 2025, with a proliferation of physical devices embedded with sensors and software connected to the internet. Smart cities are gaining momentum, adapting in real time to the needs of residents through interconnected networks of sensors.

The concentration of power is evident. OpenAI doubled its annualized revenue to $3.4 billion in the last six months, with its ChatGPT responsible for $5.6 billion of premium LLM subscriptions. Nvidia reported $96 billion in revenue in the last 12 months—four times its 2022 total.

Companies that mention AI in earnings conference calls see a 121% increase in performance compared to 91% for those that don't. The technology is no longer optional—it's a competitive advantage.

What Changes for You

In practice, these trends mean: more sophisticated AI assistants anticipating your needs, cities adapting in real time, greater security against cyberattacks, and more natural and emotional digital interactions.
