Brazil leads environmental digital innovation at COP30.
At COP30, the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) launched the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) as Brazil's first Digital Public Good. The announcement was made during the panel "Digital Public Infrastructures and Digital Public Goods for Accelerating Climate Action," led by Minister Esther Dweck.
International impact and recognition
The CAR, now internationally recognized as the Rural Environmental Registry (RER), has been included in the catalog of the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA), a global network that brings together open digital solutions with the potential for social and environmental impact. The system is already used by more than 5 million Brazilian rural producers and will be a reference for other countries in sustainability policies.
Objectives and benefits
- Strengthening international cooperation in digital infrastructures
- Ensuring transparency and open access to environmental data
- To contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Minister Esther Dweck emphasized that technology must go hand in hand with sustainability and social justice. "Climate action strategies need to incorporate the potential of technology to address challenges fairly and effectively," she stated.
Brazil's position in the global scenario
Brazil is positioning itself as a leader in building a new paradigm of digital cooperation, based on open and interoperable technologies. The launch of the CAR (Rural Environmental Registry) as a digital public good reinforces the country's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and social justice.
