Technological Trends and Disruption in 2025: Impacts

Podcast about the subject Listen on Spotify

The main technological trends that will transform 2025.

The year 2025 promises to be marked by disruptive technological advancements that will impact various sectors of the economy and society. Among the most prominent innovations are generative artificial intelligence (AI), 6G connectivity, quantum computing, advanced robotics, and the expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT). These technologies not only promise to accelerate the automation and personalization of services, but also to redefine how companies and consumers interact.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

AI continues to be at the forefront of innovation, with significant advances in generative AI and so-called AI agents, capable of acting autonomously to fulfill objectives defined by users. According to Gartner, by 2028, 151 TWT of daily work decisions will be made by Agentic AI systems, compared to 1 TWT in 2024. This technology promises to increase productivity and reduce operational costs, as well as improve personalization and predictive analytics in various sectors, such as healthcare, finance, and retail.

6G Connectivity and Mixed Reality

Following the consolidation of 5G, 6G technology is beginning to emerge as the basis for immersive experiences in the metaverse and for the integration between the physical and digital worlds. Fredrik Jejdling, from Ericsson, highlights that 6G will allow human sensations and actions combined with digital representations, expanding mobility and digital interaction. In parallel, mixed reality, which combines augmented and virtual reality, is advancing with holograms and smart lenses, such as those developed by Meta, which promise to replace bulky devices, bringing new forms of communication and remote work.

Quantum Computing and Supercomputers

Investment in semiconductors and quantum computing is growing globally, driven by the demand for greater processing power and energy efficiency. These technologies are revolutionizing complex areas such as climate modeling, biology, and digital security, paving the way for solutions previously unimaginable in terms of scale and speed.

Advanced Robotics and Multi-Agent Systems

Humanoid robots with autonomous learning capabilities, developed by companies such as Boston Dynamics, OpenAI, and Nvidia, are increasingly close to replicating human skills, transforming manufacturing, logistics, and services. Furthermore, multi-agent systems (MAS) promise more efficient collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence, expanding the potential for innovation and automation by 2026.

Internet of Things and Smart Cities

The IoT is expected to explode in 2025, with connected devices incorporating sensors and software to create smarter and more responsive environments. Smart cities, equipped with interconnected networks, will be able to adapt in real time to the needs of residents, increasing urban efficiency and sustainability.

Impacts and Challenges

These trends have a profound impact on the economy, with the potential to optimize costs, increase the agility and resilience of supply chains, and promote sustainability. However, they also raise challenges in cybersecurity, data governance, and ethics in the use of AI. The responsible adoption of these technologies will be crucial to ensure broad social and economic benefits.
