2025: The Year of the Paradox Between Technology and Humanity

Podcast about the subject Listen on Spotify

Global trends point to 2025 as a year of contradictions and transformations.

2025 is already shaping up to be a year of paradoxes. While consumers embrace advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and digital innovations, they simultaneously seek more humanity, creativity, and analog experiences. This is the scenario mapped out by VML's global report "The Future 100," based on research conducted in 14 markets, including Brazil.

The study reveals conflicting aspirations that define consumer behavior: fear for the future combined with hope for society; a search for a simple life versus extraordinary experiences; and digital innovation alongside a return to analog.

Sustainability and energy transition are gaining momentum.

In the environmental arena, 2025 marks a tipping point. The United Nations predicts that this will be the second or third warmest year on record, with the global average temperature from January to August 2025 reaching 1.42 °C ± 0.12 °C above the historical average. Extreme weather events—floods in Africa and Asia, wildfires in Europe and North America, deadly tropical cyclones—intensify the pressure for concrete action.

The answer lies in accelerating the energy transition. The global expansion of renewable energies such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen is emerging as a top priority. Developing countries and emerging economies are intensifying investments in clean energy to achieve climate goals. In Brazil, solar energy projects in isolated communities are already reducing energy inequality, with significant expansion projected for 2025.

The global green bond market will reach new records in 2025, with Latin America standing out. Investors are increasingly seeking to invest capital in businesses aligned with ESG (Economic, Environmental, Social and Governance) practices, pressuring companies to adopt responsible measures.

Green technology and digital innovation are transforming sectors.

The integration of sustainability and technology is revolutionizing various sectors. Artificial intelligence and blockchain are being used to monitor and optimize resource use, reduce waste, improve operational efficiency, and track supply chains. These innovations help companies achieve sustainability goals more effectively.

Simultaneously, the pursuit of high performance and digital transformation is accelerating. Companies are investing in technologies that extend human capabilities, opening up space for more imaginative approaches in the creative economy.

Geopolitical changes are redefining the global landscape.

In the political and economic sphere, increasing urbanization will mark the next 25 years. The world's urban population will increase by 721,000,300 by 2050, making cities the most important agents of job creation. Simultaneously, new economic powers are emerging: the "ChIndia" ecosystem (China and India) is establishing itself as a productive and consumer hub, while new acronyms such as MINT (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Turkey) and SICK (Syria, India, and the United Koreas) are replacing the traditional BRICS.

International climate cooperation is gaining momentum. In November 2025, Canada will lead advances in sustainability by supporting the standardization of the global carbon market proposed by Brazil and 12 other countries during COP30, consolidating the country's role as a leader in the Global South on the environmental agenda.

What changes for you in 2025?

These movements directly impact daily life. Expect greater availability of renewable energy in communities, more accessible products and services with environmental certification, and companies rethinking business models to balance technological innovation with human values. The pressure for sustainability is no longer optional—it is imperative for companies that wish to remain competitive.

The paradox of 2025 is not an irreconcilable contradiction, but rather an opportunity: to integrate advanced technology with humanity, economic growth with environmental responsibility, innovation with tradition.
