The event, which takes place from November 10th to 13th in Portugal, brings together more than 70,000 participants and marks a strategic moment for the internationalization of the Brazilian technological ecosystem.

The massive presence was coordinated by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) in partnership with the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae). The Brazil Pavilion was officially inaugurated this Tuesday (November 11) by the presidents of the two institutions, Jorge Viana and Décio Lima, consolidating the commitment to the international expansion of Brazilian technological solutions.

Northeast in the spotlight: 23% of the Brazilian delegation

One important highlight is the significant participation of the Northeast region in the delegation. Of the 151 startups selected by ApexBrasil, 35 are from the Northeast region — representing 23.18% of the total. This number reflects the decentralization of the innovation ecosystem in the country. According to data from the Sebrae Startups Observatory, the Northeast is home to approximately 24.7% of Brazilian startups, consolidating itself as the second region with the highest concentration of startups in Brazil, behind only the Southeast (35.8%).

Among the prominent companies from the Northeast of Brazil is Just Travel (BA), a management platform for the tourism sector that seeks to attract foreign investment and expand operations in Europe.

Brazil leads in technology compensation in Latin America.

While the country positions itself globally as a hub for innovation, recent data reveals another competitive dimension: Brazil leads in technology salaries in Latin America. According to a 2025 report by the multinational human resources firm Deel, Brazilian engineers and data scientists earn, on average, US$67,000 annually — equivalent to R$358,900 per year or R$31,800 per month.

This figure significantly surpasses Mexico (US$48,000 annually) and Argentina (US$42,000 annually). However, it remains considerably lower than the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, where the average compensation reaches US$150,000 annually—more than double the Brazilian average.

The analysis also reveals a significant internal disparity: while technical fields offer competitive salaries, professionals in sales, marketing, product, and design are still far from the standards of the major global powers.

Billion-dollar investments in digital infrastructure

Beyond its presence at international events, Brazil is advancing in technological infrastructure. The data center operator Omnia, controlled by Pátria Investimentos, announced the construction of the Pecém Data Center in Ceará, with an investment of up to US$2 billion and an initial IT capacity of 200 MW—placing it among the largest in Latin America. The project is part of a US$50 billion megaproject that will have TikTok as its anchor client.

Digital public innovation on the climate agenda

In a parallel move, the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) launched a strategic agenda for digital public infrastructure and goods at COP30. A highlight was the recognition of the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR) as the first Brazilian Digital Public Good in the international catalog of the Digital Public Goods Alliance (DPGA), marking the convergence between innovation, sustainability, and social justice.

Micro and small businesses as an economic engine

The international expansion of startups is occurring within a favorable context. In 2024, micro and small businesses accounted for 961% of new business openings in Brazil, according to Sebrae. Of the 3.3 million registered businesses, 3.2 million were micro and small businesses (MEI). Together, these companies generate approximately R$420 billion annually, representing 30% of GDP.

By 2025, experts suggest that small businesses should invest in product personalization, adopt technologies such as artificial intelligence, and balance innovation with a sustainable purpose to thrive in a dynamic environment.

What changes for the ecosystem?

The massive Brazilian presence in Lisbon signals the consolidation of an internationalization strategy. With over 20,000 startups in the country and continuous growth, Brazil seeks to attract foreign investment, establish partnerships, and position technological solutions in developed markets. Decentralization with participation from the Northeast reinforces the geographic diversification of the ecosystem.

At the same time, investments in digital infrastructure and recognition of digital public goods indicate that the country not only exports private solutions, but also builds innovation capabilities with public and environmental impact.

Photo by Mathias Reding on Unsplash

A delegation of 370 startups marks Brazil's presence at the largest European technology event.
