The Ibovespa closed Monday (10) at 155,257 points, with an increase of 0.77%, marking the 14th consecutive increase and hitting a new historical record. The sequence of gains brings the index closer to equaling the mark of 15 consecutive increases registered in May and June 1994, shortly before the Real Plan.

In the accumulated total for 2025, the Brazilian stock market is projected to rise 29.08%, the largest annual increase since 2019, when it registered a gain of 31.58%. In October alone, the index advanced 3.82%.

Dollar weakens and exchange rate favors investments.

The positive performance is not limited to stocks. The commercial dollar closed Monday at R$ 5.307, down R$ 0.029 (-0.55%). The currency has accumulated a drop of 1.36% in November and 14.12% in 2025, reflecting optimism about the Brazilian economy.

Analysts point out that lower interest rates encourage the migration of investments to the stock market. The market awaits signals from the Central Bank on when it will begin to reduce the Selic rate, with expectations of cuts as early as January 2026 if October's inflation comes in below forecast.

Stocks with the highest appreciation in 2025

While the overall index advances, some stocks stand out even more. Cogna (COGN3) leads with a gain of 240.16%, driven by financial restructuring and a recovery in results in the education sector. Movida (MOVI3) follows with a gain of 199.03%, followed by Moura Dubeux (MDNE3) with 194.04%. In total, 14 stocks in the Ibovespa and Small Caps index have doubled in value in 2025.

Government expands protection against US tariffs.

While the stock market celebrates record highs, the federal government is working to protect companies from the impacts of tariffs imposed by the United States. The Sovereign Brazil Plan was expanded this week, reducing the minimum impact on exports required to access financing: from 5% to just 1%.

The measure also increases sectoral scope, including suppliers from affected sectors. According to the Vice President and Minister of Development, Geraldo Alckmin, the government seeks to balance negotiations with measures to support the productive sector.

Business negotiations are ongoing.

Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday (12) in Niagara, Canada, during the G7 meeting. The two discussed the progress of bilateral talks on trade tariffs.

Brazil sent a formal proposal to the United States on November 4th, following a virtual meeting between technical teams from both countries. Experts warn that US direct investment in Brazil could be reduced if negotiations do not progress.

Corporate results show a mixed picture.

In the third quarter of 2025, results from large companies revealed mixed performance. Casas Bahia reported revenue growth and improved EBITDA thanks to greater operational efficiency, with sales advancing across all fronts — marketplace, physical stores, and direct sales.

Banco do Brasil, however, disappointed. Its EBT was 11% below expectations due to increased provisions, pressured by the postponement of renegotiations in the rural segment. The deterioration in asset quality led the bank to revise its profit guidance downwards and raise provision forecasts.

Photo by Anne Nygård on Unsplash

Ibovespa continues to rise as government reinforces protection against US tariffs.
