The Brazilian stock market accumulates 29,08% high in 2025, the largest annual increase since 2019, when it rose 31,58%.

Despite the occasional setback, the index remains close to its historical records, having hit highs for the 11th consecutive time on Monday (10), when it reached 155,257 points. The sequence of increases reflects investor confidence in Brazilian assets, driven mainly by shares of oil companies, mining companies and banks.

Dollar closes lower; US-focused trading

The commercial dollar closed up 0.10% on Thursday, quoted at R$ 5.2975. Despite the positive movement of the day, the American currency accumulates a drop of 14,12% in 2025, reflecting pressure from internal and external factors favorable to the real situation.

The international scene returned to the focus of investors after the end of the US government shutdown. This Thursday, Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Niagara Falls, on the sidelines of the G7 meeting, to discuss the progress of tariff negotiations between the two countries.

Government expands protection for companies against US tariffs.

The Ministries of Finance and Development, Industry, Trade and Services published on Wednesday (12) Ordinance 21, which significantly expands access to the Sovereign Brazil Plan. The initiative offers emergency financing lines to companies affected by tariffs imposed by the United States.

The change drastically reduces the eligibility criteria. Now, companies that have 1% of export revenue to the US impacted Those who qualify through tariffs can access the program. Under the previous rule, the requirement was to demonstrate an impact exceeding 5% of gross revenue from US exports.

Retail shows mixed signals in September.

The Monthly Retail Trade Survey (PMC) released by IBGE this Thursday revealed a heterogeneous performance of Brazilian retail in September. Sales advanced 2% year-on-year comparison and 0.3% in the monthly comparison.

Regionally, 15 of the 27 federative units registered a decline, with Maranhão (-2.2%) and Roraima (-2.0%) standing out. Among the increases, Tocantins (3.2%) and Amapá (2.9%) led the way. In the broader retail sector, Tocantins saw a strong increase of 11.4%, while Paraná (-1.8%) and São Paulo (-1.6%) were among the largest declines.

Banks face pressure on third-quarter results.

Banco do Brasil reported weak results in the third quarter of 2025, with earnings before tax (EBT) 11% below expectations. The deterioration was driven by increased provisions, pressured by the postponement of renegotiations in the rural segment.

Asset quality deteriorated, particularly in rural credit and retail portfolios, leading the bank to revise its profit guidance downwards and raise its provision forecast. Non-performing loan indicators rose across the board, limiting visibility for recovery in the fourth quarter.

Photo by Adam Śmigielski on Unsplash

Brazilian financial market continues to rise.
