The stock market's advance is the 14th consecutive week of gains, driven by shares of oil companies, mining companies, and banks, and reflects market optimism regarding the prospect of a cut in the economy's basic interest rates.

Record highs on the stock market and interest rate expectations

The Ibovespa closed on Monday (10) at 155,257 points, up 0.77% on the day and accumulating 29.08% of appreciation in 2025 — the best annual performance since 2019. The market awaits the minutes of the Copom, which will be released this Tuesday (11), and the official inflation for October, which may pave the way for cuts in the Selic rate as early as January.

According to experts, lower interest rates tend to attract investors to the stock market, rather than fixed-income investments. The dollar, in turn, fell 1.36% in November and has accumulated a drop of 14.12% for the year, reflecting the improved external scenario and the expectation of exchange rate stability.

Impacts on retail and the production sector

The retail sector is also feeling the effects of the economic improvement. Companies like Renner, Ashua, Youcom, and Camicado are promoting campaigns to boost sales, taking advantage of the Black November period. Consumer traffic has increased, although experts warn of a slowdown in consumption in the medium term.

Furthermore, the government expanded companies' access to the Sovereign Brazil Plan, reducing the minimum export impact required for companies to apply for financing from 5% to 1%. This measure aims to support sectors affected by tariffs imposed by the United States.

International relations and negotiations

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met in Washington to discuss trade tariffs. The Brazilian government is seeking to reverse the 40% tariffs imposed by Donald Trump, which affect exports of products such as sugar, ethanol, and steel.

Photo by Ruben Sukatendel on Unsplash

The Brazilian stock market hit a new record this week, surpassing 155,000 points on the Ibovespa index, while the commercial dollar fell to R$5.307, according to data from B3 and the Central Bank.
