The Brazilian stock market hit a record high for the 11th time in a row and is close to matching the sequence of 15 increases registered between May and June 1994, shortly before the Real Plan.

With an appreciation of 3.82% in October alone, the market has accumulated a gain of 29.08% in 2025 — the largest annual increase since 2019, when it registered 31.58%.

What drives earnings?

Shares of oil companies, mining companies, and banks led the euphoria in trading. The services sector also stood out, with eight consecutive increases, while the broader retail sector showed signs of recovery as Black Friday approached.

In the foreign exchange market, the commercial dollar closed at R$ 5.307, down 0.55%. The US currency traded lower throughout the session, deepening the downward trend around 3 pm. The currency has accumulated a drop of 1.36% in November and a decline of 14.12% in 2025.

Expectations for the next steps

Investors are closely monitoring the release of the minutes from the Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) meeting and official inflation data. If the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) for October comes in lower than expected, it opens the door for the Central Bank to begin cutting the Selic rate in January, instead of March 2026. Lower interest rates encourage investment to shift towards the stock market.

International scenario in focus

The end of the US government shutdown and tariff negotiations between Brazil and the United States are also influencing the market. Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Niagara Falls, on the sidelines of the G7 meeting, to discuss the progress of trade negotiations.

Retail sector shows gradual recovery.

The Monthly Trade Survey (PMC) released by IBGE this Thursday (13) brought mixed signals for the retail sector in September. Pharmaceutical and perfumery items rose 1.3%, while other personal use items advanced 0.5%. Regionally, 15 of the 27 federative units registered a drop, with Maranhão (-2.2%) and Roraima (-2.0%) standing out.

Stocks that doubled in value

While the overall index advances, 14 stocks from the Ibovespa and Small Caps have doubled in value by 2025, with Cogna leading the ranking in appreciation. This performance reflects the selectivity of the market and opportunities in specific sectors.

Photo by Adam Śmigielski on Unsplash

Ibovespa surpasses 155,000 points with historic streak of gains.
