The dollar closed up 0.10%, quoted at R$ 5.2975, reflecting market volatility in the face of domestic and international factors.

The Brazilian stock market lost momentum after the end of the US government shutdown, which diverted investors' attention to diplomatic negotiations between Brazil and the United States. Among the day's positive highlights, shares of Taísa rose 5.77%, CSN advanced 5.05%, and B3 gained 4.36%.

Business negotiations in focus

Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Niagara Falls, Canada, on the sidelines of the G7 summit. The meeting served to discuss the progress of tariff negotiations between the two countries, which have been ongoing since the Brazilian proposal was submitted on November 4th.

In response to the impacts of US tariffs, the government expanded access to the Sovereign Brazil Plan. The Ministries of Finance and Development published Ordinance 21, which relaxes revenue criteria and expands sectoral scope to include suppliers of exporters. The credit lines total R$30 billion, operated by BNDES.

Economic indicators show mixed signals.

The Monthly Retail Trade Survey (PMC) released by IBGE revealed uneven performance in the retail sector in September. While pharmaceutical and perfumery items rose 1.31% of the total sales period (TP3T), 15 of the 27 states registered a decline, notably Maranhão (-2.21% of the TP3T) and Roraima (-2.01% of the TP3T). Tocantins led the increases with 3.21% of the TP3T.

In the banking sector, Banco do Brasil recorded a 601% drop in profit compared to the previous year, pressured by rising default rates and increased provisions. The institution again lowered its projections for 2025.

Impact initiatives and funding

During COP 30 in Belém, Banco do Brasil signed a letter of intent with the European Investment Bank to raise 350 million euros to support women entrepreneurs and clean energy in the Legal Amazon region.

The government also launched the Impacta Brasil Portal, the first virtual showcase for connecting investors with socio-environmental impact ventures. The platform features 351 businesses focused on climate solutions, the result of a partnership between MDIC (Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade), Aliança pelo Impacto (Alliance for Impact), and Climate Ventures.

Photo by Sean Pollock on Unsplash

Brazilian stock market and dollar are falling this Thursday.
